Dare I say it? Fall is near!!!!!

WOW!!!! I did not realize how long it's been since my last post! But I hope I'm ready to get back into posting more often.

Days are getting shorter and way cooler and has me thinking of the holidays.  Just yesterday I saw the first of many yellowish leaves on the Popcorn Tree outside my den window. That a sure sign that we are now in the fall season of the year.

Can you believe how close to the holidays we are getting??  In this day and time when money isn't a plentiful as it used to be I've been busy coming up with homemade gifts for my family.  I have knitted my Little Man a rust colored knit scarf complete with fringe....really easy....I used size 10 knitting needles and after casting on 26 stitches I simply knitted each stitch until it was the length I wanted for a little boy.  My biggest problem is hoping it gets cold enough this winter to use a scarf!!!!  I taught myself to knit...well...at least to be able to do stuff that doesn't require any accelerated knowledge of knitting!! There is a truck load of knitting tutorials (as well as crochet) on the internet and I confess that I have a few on "speed check". Here's a pic of the one I did for Gabriel....hope he likes it.




I'm making a few other gifts that I won't mention since I hope my daughter is reading my blog and I don't want her to find out what I've done.    So....if funds are low check out the internet for things that you, too, can make for the ones you love.

Cooler weather has me thinking fall and cool weather foods...like chili, beef stew and all things made with pumpkin.  Last week I made a Pumpkin Pound Cake and if I say so myself it was extremely good!







PUMPKIN POUND CAKE


 


1 c. Wesson oil
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. soda
4 eggs
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. plain flour (presifted)
2 c. cooked mashed pumpkin or canned
Mix all ingredients in single bowl and bake in tube pan (greased and floured) at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Cool and dribble the following sauce.

SAUCE FOR PUMPKIN POUND CAKE:
1/3 c. butter
1 2/3 c. powdered sugar
2/3 tsp. vanilla
Few drops milk or cream
Melt butter. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and a few drops of milk to make thin enough to pour.  PS: I added a little Pumpkin sauce to the sauce and YUM!!!!!


So I'm off and running making fall dishes, using LOTS of pumpkin and working on things for December already,  Gabriel and I have decorated the outside of my house and I have all things fall sitting around inside.  Oh yeah....I'm ready for this time of the year...BIG TIME!!!!
